Erik Ten Hag is reported to secure the first signature of his tenure at Manchester United with 22-year-old Darwin Núñez.
According to the Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, the United-Benfica deal is said to be “very close” to the striker.
The report claims that Nunez is Ten Hag’s “priority” target as he seeks to find a striker to support the Red Devil attack.
Nunez finished third in Portugal’s Liga Portugal and advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals, scoring 34 goals in all competitions this season.
Perhaps the most notable indicator that Nunez can be proud of is his huge lead in the league’s expected goals for the season.
Nunez scored 26 times in 28 games with an xG value of only 15.73. This is almost 11 more goals than the average forward.
